Educator Spotlight: Ms. Amanda Rose

Amanda Rose

JNS: Ms. Amanda Rose! Thank you so much for chatting with me!  Let’s get started with why you decided to become an educator?

AR: Thanks for having me! I found my passion for education in Charleston, so when I relocated to California I began hunting for cosmetology schools that shared my vision for the future of our industry. I knew Federico was the place for me after my first tour. I loved the energy and it was clear that this Institution cares about each student. From the café, to the water dispenser, to the advanced classes offered to students and graduates, Federico Beauty Institute goes above and beyond. And that is what I would like to offer to each student, and education that goes above and beyond!

JNS: The fact that you try to go above and beyond really shows when I see you with your students. What’s were you doing before you decided to focus on being and educator?

AR: Before Federico, I was a Makeup Artist and Hairstylist working at Studio M in Charleston, SC. I have been lucky enough to work in film, print, hairshows, runway, bridal, and behind the chair. I would not have been successful without the support of my hair family in Charleston.

JNS: That’s awesome! I love that you’re so well rounded; it really helps give you a unique approach to teaching. What would you say is the biggest difference between working behind the chair and working with students?

AR: Having a client love their hair because of a service that you provided is one of the best feelings I have ever known, but there is something even more gratifying in those “Ahah!” moments that I share with students. As a hairdresser I was only capable of touching as many lives as I had clients; as an educator I have the opportunity to influence each student, who will then go out and create more success than I could have imagined.

JNS: Do you have any advice for students that are just starting out?

AR: My advice for new professionals is to stay inspired. Your skill will advance as you move through your career, but your passion will dwindle…so feed that fire! Take classes, find inspiration in art, architecture, music, sports, whatever motivates you!

JNS: That’s fantastic, we’re all about growing and staying inspired here. Are there any people that are currently inspiring you?

AR: My favorite beauty blog is liketheyogurt.com.  Dannon, the creator, is an amazing Makeup Artist with a keen sense of modern fashion, art and lifestyle trends. I am fortunate enough to know her personally, and she pushes me to stay current.

JNS: Do you have any future projects you are excited for in school or out of?

AR: Yes! The Makeup Program is about to launch through AJF Academy, and I am beyond excited!! I started my career as a hairstylist, and I could have never imagined the doors that Makeup Artistry would open for me. Expanding your skill-set is the only way to set yourself apart in this industry. By being able to do hair as well as makeup you really open yourself up to so many opportunities.

JNS: Very true! People love to hire someone who can wear many hats. Let’s wrap this up on a fun fact about yourself! What do you have for me!

AR: One interesting fact about me is that I am a super-nerd. I have so many food/products allergies. I love this about myself because it has made me hyper aware of ingredients and how they work. #nerdlife.

JNS: Haha, I love that fun fact. Thank you Amanda!
