As future beauty professionals, our students understand the impact of helping others. When a woman receives a new hair color, her self-image can be boosted. When a man comes in to get a haircut before an interview, that new look he leaves with can boost his confidence and help him land that job. For a teenager who suffers from acne, going to an esthetician and getting on an appropriate treatment plan can turn them from shy to outgoing. But outside of the beauty industry, how can we help others?
With the help of our amazing student ambassadors, we have created a Random Act of Kindness club, which we have named the “RAK PAK”. Each month, we pick a charity, organization or cause to donate to. Our first organization is our friends at Sacramento Loaves and Fishes. We are currently collecting packs of water or gallon sized jugs to donate to the homeless community that they so selflessly help.
Along with our ambassadors, our students have helped by asking family and friends to donate to our Water Drive. Our barbering students have been such a big help by being the muscles to carry the packs of donated water when needed!
We started the first week of July and we received 13 packs of water. Our ambassadors decided to kick it into high gear and by week two, they had collected an additional 47 packs of water.
Did they stop there? No way. They kept the momentum going by reaching out to a local news station and set up a TV segment so we could get our cause out there to the people of Sacramento! You can check out the video here. By the end of week three, we have collected 32 packs of water.
We are accepting donations until July 29th. You can drop off water to the school Tuesday-Saturday 10am-5pm. If you are interested in donating or have questions about our RAK PAK, you can contact our Student Services Coordinator, Julia D at 916-929-4242 ext 213.
