2015 marks Federico’s second year working with the River City Food Bank and Help Portraits, to provide framed holiday portraits for those who wouldn’t normally have access to professional photography. Help Portraits is an organization that was created in 2008 to “empower photographers, hairstylists and makeup artists to use their skills, tools and expertise to give back to their local community.” Our Cosmetology, Barber, and Esthetics students got to provide hairstyling and makeup services as well as haircuts for dozens of members of our community.
Ms. Ro, our Cosmetology instructor working the event said, “It was an eye opening and humbling experience. There was something very gratifying about what we were able to do for them.” Along with providing hair and makeup, our students also contributed to the clothing drive that the food bank had done, allowing people the chance to get warm winter coats and fun holiday outfits.
Student Anu S. said, “It was nice to give back and get to hear everyone’s heartwarming stories. Seeing everyone’s cheerful faces after we made them over and being able to provide a little joy for others this time of year was fantastic.”
Student Derriana G. stated, “It was interesting, awesome, and warming for the soul!” We can’t wait until next December when we get to do it again!
