This weekend we had the pleasure of holding the first ever Neoteric class by Adam Federico and AJF Academy. Neoteric (meaning the New Modern) incorporates modern looks with classic foundations while working with the organic movement and texture of the hair.
The morning started out with a live model demo by Adam featuring modern edge on a classic cropped shape. Adam stressed the importance of including disconnection that still blended with the cut.
This sold out session included stylists with a wide array of experience, so it was interesting to see how the various skill levels approached the techniques taught in Neoteric. When it was time to move on to the hands on portion, the attendees were tasked with creating a graduated bob while using both shears and a plier razor. Many of them had little to no experience with plier razors, so it was impressive to watch them dive in and successfully execute the cut while mastering a new tool.
They used the razor to undercut the bob, then switched back and forth between the razor and shears to execute a square shaped bob with rounded fringe. When it was all said and done, all twelve students walked away from the class with a fantastic cut.
We finished out the class by drawing the winner of the ZGAT Academy + Federico Advanced giveaway. There were a ton of names to choose from, over 200 entries were accumulated over the year, and we were so pleased to announce that Nick Shockey, of Mosaic Salon right here in Sacramento, was the winner of the round trip airfare and 5 day cutting course with ZGAT in Croatia. Congratulations Nick!
