The holidays are upon us and that means it’s time again for all of Federico to give back to the community! Every year staff and students at Federico participate in a ton of community outreach events to help spread holiday cheer.
To kick things off, we gave haircuts to the homeless in partnership with Project SafeGround on November 16th, and we will be doing it again on Monday Dec 14th at Bayside Church in Midtown. Project SafeGround provides food and shelter for the local homeless population while Federico gives them fresh cuts and shaves. They are always accepting donations of toiletries, bottled water, blankets, and clothes, if you would like to participate outside of volunteering.
Along with the Project SafeGround event, we have our annual Toy Drive! For the months of November and December, you can bring in any appropriate toy and you will receive $5.00 off of any service at the school. All presents are donated to the Sutter Health Children’s Hospital. The Federico Toy Drive is a long running annual event and always brings so much happiness to local youth.
Next up, we have the Annual Harvest Church Christmas Musical on December 12th and 13th. This year’s production is “Wrapping All the Way”. We started volunteering with Harvest Church last Christmas and their plays never disappoint.
Wrapping it all up, pun intended, is the annual Help Portraits event at the River City Food Bank on December 12th. The Help Portraits event provides professional holiday portraits for local disadvantaged families. Federico provides hair and makeup, while local photographers take portraits and print and frame them on the spot. Last year’s event deeply touched all the students involved, and because of that, we’ve decided to do a holiday clothes drive for it as well. Many of the people that come in to get their portrait taken don’t have nicer clothes to wear, so if you’re interested in donating holiday wear to the cause there is a donation box available. Click here to see highlights from last year’s event!
None of these events would be possible without the tireless efforts of our Outreach staff and of course our amazingly generous students who donate their time outside of school. Thank you for helping us bring joy to so many people this holiday season!
